In his first race for the University of Houston's renowned track program, Elijah Hall broke the school record in the 200m. He's been sprinting to wins in top meets ever since, capturing AAC and NCAA championships. Now, Elijah is taking on the pro circuit in the best shape of his life.As a high school freshman in Katy, Texas, Elijah was beating 12th graders heading to Division 1 universities and by the time he graduated, he'd set numerous school records. He enrolled at Butler Community College in Kansas, then transferred to start his junior year at the University of Houston. Among his highlights in that 2017 season, Elijah took bronze at the USATF Outdoor Championships, was named AAC Most Outstanding Track Athlete and won the 100m and the 4x200m relay at the Penn Relays. He also made the World Championships team before a hamstring injury cut his season short. As a senior, Elijah delivered one of the most successful indoor campaigns in the UH record books, winning five regular-season individual titles and becoming just the fourth sprinter in history to win both the 60m and 200m NCAA Indoor Championships in the same season. His 200m time of 20.02s ranks as the world's second-fastest indoor time. Outdoors, he helped Houston to the NCAA title in the 4x100m and clinched NCAA silver in the 100m.Elijah earned his degree in 2018 and as with most newcomers to the pro ranks, his first year on the circuit took some recalibrating. He intensified his physical program in 2019, devoting the summer to refining his start technique and getting his 1.83m frame even fitter. One current focus for Elijah is improving his time in the 100m. "Everyone knows how good I am as a 200m runner, but I'm very well-rounded and I want to show people that I have a 100m side, too," he states. He's also targeting the indoor world record in the 300m."I'm a humble person, but don't take me for granted," says Elijah. "I'm here to win, I'm here to show the world what I can do and I'm here to be a great father at the same time. That's how I see it." Show less «
