Edie J. Adler was born in Santa Barbara, CA. to Heron and Neftali Ocampo on September 28, 1962. The youngest of 7 children, Edie was born premature at only 26 weeks when her parents were vacationing in the coastal town. Weighing less than two pounds, and measuring approximately 10 inches, the doctors and nurses did not expect the tiny baby to survive. Edie spent the first few weeks of her life in an incubator. She then returned with her parents to Mexico City. Her father decided to give her his first name as a last name, adding an "s" at the end (Herons) to show the world she would always be his little miracle baby girl. Edie always knew she was born to entertain. She has been working in the media since the age of 15, both behind and in front of the cameras when she discovered journalism while working at Univision under the tutelage of acclaimed News Director Pete Moraga. She has done extensive Spanish voice over work, including "The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan." She plays the "teacher" on "Switched at Birth" where she enjoys learning ASL from the deaf actors on the show . Edie has worked in theater, film, and television. One of her favorite roles was as the Evil Queen in "Happily Whatever After" at the Next Stage Theater in Hollywood. She has also done stand up comedy, performing at the Improv, the Ice House in Pasadena, and the Comedy Store on Sunset Tragically both of her parents lost their battle with Alzheimer's disease; Edie has been an active advocate and speaker for the Alzheimer's Association since 2007.
