Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman has described Eddie Wakes as a new evocative voice. He enjoys a rare and distinct authenticity as a singer, setting him apart from most in the contemporary music landscape. Born the 8th of 9 sons in the Heartland of America, Eddie has a strong Jazz, Classical and Church-centered music heritage! All began at his father's church. Lionel Hampton, who after hearing the elder Wakes at a Gospel concert, sought him out to join his band. Eddie, it is said, has inherited the haunting essence of his father's voice! Eddie began his professional music career after high school, exciting his audiences. His talents have taken him around the world and afforded him the opportunity to collaborate with music luminaries and icons; Music Producer David Foster, Diana Krall, Sarah McLachlan, Elvis Costello, Stevie Wonder, Al Jarreau, David Benoit, B.B. King, Linda Ronstadt, to name a few. Movie producers have even sought out Eddie's voice for the soundtracks of their feature films. In 2009, Eddie collaborated with film maker Damien Chazelle on what would be for both, their first film, "Guy and Madeline on A Park Bench"; a thematic precursory to Chazelle's 3rd film, "La La Land" (2016; Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone) in which Eddie also performed ("Silent Night"), at the director's request. The film has won 8 Critics Choice Awards and has been nominated for 7 Golden Globe Awards, to date! In 2014, Eddie was featured in a documentary film, "Nat King Cole: Afraid of the Dark" (Starz Channel). The film also features interviews with Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, Natalie Cole, Harry Belafonte, George Benson, Ralph Carmichael and others. The director, British producer Jon Brewer, said that Eddie's knowledge of the American Songbook is as profoundly informed as the creators of this singular music. Show less «
