Doug Phillips is an American actor who has played a wide variety of roles. Minister, Mob hit-man, wife-beater, disabled Vietnam Vet.He holds degrees in Medical Technology, Computer Programming and Theology. He's been a writer (both fiction and nonfiction) all his life. He began writing about film at age 48, doing film reviews for conservative websites. This forced him to study screenplay structure and to understand the differences between written and visual storytelling. At age 50, he took up film acting and also (in response to the first Project Greenlight contest)began screen writing.Doug appeared in theatrical release films such as "Mr. 3000" and "Side Effects." He's also worked in many Indie films, including those he himself wrote, produced and directed. He's won numerous screen writing and filmmaking awards. His first screenplay, the based-on-a-true-story Western "Lost Boundaries," was Optioned in 2005 to Buzzmedia Networks BV in the Netherlands. His next screenplay, "Amber and Gray," a misdirection cop thriller, received an Option offer from the Creative Actors Alliance of Los Angeles. But he's primarily settled into writing simple scripts and producing them himself.Doug's films and screenplays tend to deal with adult themes, but in a message-oriented, non-exploitative way. Frequent "message" themes include racism, greed, and dysfunctional family relationships. Occasionally his films include explicit Evangelical content. More often, an underlying theme of faith is implicitly present but is not openly vocalized. His Feature films "Remake" (2012) and "Not Quite Lyin' Eyes" (2013) have received awards, positive reviews, and distribution. Several of his Short films and earlier Features, including "Hurt," "The Interview," "Roughing It Up" and "Incidental," have received TV airplay. Show less «
