Derek Stewart has been acting since he was a child appearing on stage with his actress mother for the first time in a regional theater production of 'Tales from the Brothers Grimm'. He moved to Los Angeles and subsequently appeared in both plays and television series including 'Major Dad', 'Sons & Daughters', 'Saved by The Bell', 'California Dreaming', 'As the World Turns' and 'Another World'. He also acted in the play 'Fragging' with George LePorte and Morris Chestnut. In addition, Derek acted in the independent film 'Godmoney' with Christian Bale, comic book turned movies Hardcase and Firearm (1993) with Gary Daniels.After four years in Los Angeles Derek moved to New York City where he interviewed and was accepted into an advanced Meisner-based acting program with acclaimed acting teacher Robert X. Modica at Carnegie Hall. Theater parts Derek performed off-off Broadway during this time ranged from the role of the Man in 'Love Letters', Sammy in 'Hesh' and Warren in 'This is our Youth' to the musical theater part of Matthew in 'Private Eyes'.While in New York City, Derek also wrote, produced, directed and acted in a short film entitled 'This is a Low', helping him to make inroads into the independent film scene.Derek has been asked to be a part of the upcoming independent features, 'Still Life' opposite Lothaire Bluteau and the film adaptation of Dostoevsky's 'A Gentle Creature' - both set to go before the camera in New York City, Summer 2002.Derek currently works as a writer, producer, director and actor in Los Angeles, California.
