Dave Hakstol enters his second season on the Maple Leafs coaching staff in 2020-21.Hakstol previously served as the head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers from May of 2015 to December of 2018. The Flyers owned a record of 134-101-42 (.560) during Hakstol's tenure.Before joining the Flyers, the Warburg, Alberta native spent 11 seasons as head coach at the University of North Dakota, where he compiled a record of 289-143-43. North Dakota would earn postseason berths in all 11 seasons, as well as three regular season conference titles, four Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoff championships and seven Frozen Four appearances. He earned conference coach of the year honours on two occasions (2008-09 and 2014-15) and was an eight time finalist for the Spencer Penrose Award as national coach of the year.Hakstol began his coaching career as head coach and general manager of the United States Hockey League's (USHL) Sioux City Musketeers for four seasons from 1996-97 through 1999-2000. He was named USHL Coach of the Year in 1997-98. Hakstol played at North Dakota for three seasons from 1989-90 to 1991-92, serving as team captain in each of his last two seasons. He went on to play parts of five seasons in the International Hockey League, splitting time with the Indianapolis Ice (1991-92 to 1993-94) and the Minnesota Moose (1994-95 to 1995-96).Hakstol and his wife, Erinn, have two children, daughter Avery and son Brenden.
