DARRYL MAXIMILIAN ROBINSON is a veteran and award-winning stage actor, play director, theatre producer, private acting coach and emerging screenwriter who is best known as The Founder, Artistic Director, Producer and Principal Actor of the multiracial, non-Equity professional, classical and contemporary chamber theatre, THE EXCALIBER SHAKESPEARE COMPANY OF CHICAGO. Born, raised and reared in The Theatre of The Windy City, Mr. Robinson is currently celebrating 42 years of involvement in The Performing Arts with credits in more than 250 theatre and literary arts presentations around the country. Winner of numerous theatre awards including: THE 1981 FORT WAYNE NEWS-SENTINEL REVIEWER'S RECOGNITION AWARD for Outstanding Thespian of the Season for his performances in professional summer stock ( particularly Fagin in Lionel Bart's "OLIVER!" ) at THE ENCHANTED HILLS PLAYHOUSE OF SYRACUSE, INDIANA; both a 1997 CHICAGO JOSEPH JEFFERSON CITATION AWARD for Outstanding Achievement By An Actor In A Principal Role and a 1997 CHICAGO BLACK THEATRE ALLIANCE / IRA ALDRIDGE AWARD NOMINATION for Best Leading Actor In A Play for his performance as Sam Semela in The ESC's production of Athol Fugard's "MASTER HAROLD AND THE BOYS" at THE HEARTLAND CAFE STUDIO THEATRE in The Windy City; a 1998 WKKC RADO CRITIC'S CORNER FINE ARTS AWARD for Outstanding Director Of A Play for his staging of The ESC's revival of Samuel Beckett's "WAITING FOR GODOT"; a 1999 BLACK THEATRE ALLIANCE / IRA ALDRIDGE AWARD NOMINATION for Best Direction Of An Ensemble for his staging of The ESC's revival of Athol Fugard's "THE BLOOD KNOT"; and a 2001 BLACK THEATRE ALLIANCE / IRA ALDRIDGE AWARD NOMINATION for Best Direction Of A Theatrical Production for his mounting of The ESC's revival of Le Roi Jones' "THE DUTCHMAN," DARRYL MAXIMILIAN ROBINSON moved from Chicago to the City of Angels in 2005 with three unsold and unpublished original film scripts in his luggage, hoping to find agency representation and to pursue his fortune as both a performer and a screenwriter. He made his Greater Los Angeles area stage debut in 2010 playing the old Shakespearean actor Henry Albertson in THE FIRST-EVER HOLLYWOOD FRINGE FESTIVAL production of Tom Jones' and Harvey Schmidt's "THE FANTASTICKS" at The Complex Theatre. He has appeared in numerous L A Stage productions since. Recent stage credits include such roles as: Don Carlos in the English Language version of THE 2011 BILINGUAL ACTORS REPERTORY THEATRE COMPANY ( BARTCO ) world premiere production of Waldo Chavez Velasco's "DREAMS FACTORY / FABRICAS DE SUENOS" at The Stages Theatre Center in Hollywood; The Narrator and The Mysterious Man in THE 2014 BURBANK COMMUNITY THEATRE production of Stephen Sondheim's and James Lapine's "INTO THE WOODS" presented at The Hall of Liberty at Forest Lawn in The Hollywood Hills; Major-General Stanley in THE 2014 SAN PEDRO THEATRE CLUB 135th Anniversary Revival Production of Gilbert and Sullivan's "THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE"; and Ernest in Tad Mosel's "IMPROMPTU", part of THE 2016 EMMANUEL LUTHERAN ACTORS THEATRE ENSEMBLE ( ELATE ) presentation of 4 one-act plays entitled "JUST 4 FUN" under the skilled direction of multiple Emmy Award-Nominated television producer Jeff Zimmer at The Lincoln Stegman Theatre in North Hollywood. Since moving to Los Angeles, Mr. Robinson has been blessed to receive some critical praise for his work in the theatre as a stage performer and he continues to seek agency representation for film and television work as both an actor and an emerging screenwriter.
