Fifth-grader Chelsea Phaire is much more mature than meets the eye. Her mother, Dr. Candace Barriteau Phaire, is an elementary education professor who has always instilled in Chelsea the importance of using creativity as an outlet for stress. Chelsea takes her mother's word very seriously and loves entertaining her friends and family because it makes them smile. In fact, when she grows up, her dream is to be a popstar by the name of "Cotton Candy" with pink and blue hair. She also has a passion for history, her favorite subject in school. Every lesson she learns about people's struggles she uses as motivation to help others never feel the same way. Her parents have taught her that she is very fortunate and may have things, like "fancy art tools," that others do not. This message is the catalyst behind Chelsea's mission 'Chelsea's Charity.' Chelsea founded 'Chelsea's Charity' last year, a self-funded organization that donates art supplies to children in need. She assembles kits of crayons, markers, paints, brushes, smocks, and sketchpads, then distributes them to homeless shelters, underprivileged schools, and schools affected by gun violence. Upon delivering the kits, she also teaches art lessons to the kids, showing them different ways they can use the supplies contained in the kits. In the past year, Chelsea was able to assemble and deliver 850 kits. Nowadays, making the kits has become a family affair. Her dad, mom, and little brother all help out to ensure the kits get out as quickly as possible. Art is her outlet for dealing with her emotions, and she wants to make sure that everyone like her has access to art supplies. Show less «
