Chapella D. Stewart was born and raised in the Bronx, New York during the birth of the Hip-Hop revolution. She has been labeled a soul music singer but has experience in Pop, Soul House, and Musical Theater. At an early age, she was inspired by male vocalists such as Prince, Michael McDonald, and Al Green. She was fascinated by her lower register and would practice songs in secret due to her extreme shyness. Her gift was hidden away for a majority of her childhood until she was called out to sing a solo one faithful morning in church. It was at this moment, Chapella knew she wanted more. She was accepted into Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts to study vocal music. It was there that she fell in love with musical theater and acting. Later, she joined an eclectic group of young people determined to use their gifts to advocate for human rights called CityKids Foundations Inc. There, Chapella was exposed to the power of political action through music and using her experiences to empower her community. She was a founding member of a youth group in Harlem called Impact Repertory Theater where she named the organization and provided vocal training and song-writing workshops. In November 21st 2007, a song Chapella helped create with Jamal Joseph, Charles Mack, and Tevin Thomas was used in the movie "August Rush". The song was nominated for an Oscar at the 80th Academy Awards on February 24th 2008 where she along with Impact Repertory Theater performed the song live. Chapella has since performed in Germany and can currently be heard in Italy on several House Music recordings. Recently, she provided lead vocals for a song called "Gunshots" for the movie "Chapter And Verse". She also works in the Bronx as a Community Health Worker helping patients navigate and access community resources, adopt healthy behaviors, and advocate for individual and community health needs. Recently she has begun working on her own music and plans to release her first project by the end of 2019. Show less «
