In 2015, Brian Calvert bought Dixie when she was eight weeks old from a breeder in South Carolina. Dixie is a four-year-old full-blooded bluetick coonhound. Dixie is trained to do big game recovery, find and retrieve shed antlers, and she's a certified therapy dog. She loves to play ball, kiss veterans, and play in the woods. As a tribute to her fur brothers and sisters, Brian and Dixie's lives are dedicated to helping people. Their specialty is helping veterans. They visit the VA hospital, nursing homes, veterans events, participate in parades, and they are a therapy dog team for Indy Honor Flight, where they help with fundraising and escorting WWII veterans, Korean War Veterans, and Vietnam Veterans to and from Washington, D.C. to see the monuments dedicated to them. Dixie is known as "Dixie The Praying Dog" due to her ability to pray on command. Brian is 47 years old and he's from Camby, IN. He has been in the trucking industry for 26 years, either driving a semi or driving forklifts. Brian loves to hunt and fish and spend time at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but most of his time is spent giving back to his community however he can with Dixie.
