Dr. Brian S. Boxer Wachler, MD is a board-certified, world-renowned eye surgeon who has gained recognition as "America's TV Eye Doctor". Dr. Brian is known for performing eye surgery on TV, including live eye surgery on The Today Show in front of millions of viewers. After his appearance on The Today Show, Dr. Brian wrote and produced a documentary feature entitled Behind the Lens, which premiered at The Laemmle Theatre in Santa Monica. The documentary discussed his experience preparing for and performing an operation on live morning television. He has also been featured on Good Morning America where he inserted permanent contact lenses on apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas. In addition to these appearances, Dr. Brian was an expert on the half-hour CW daytime show, Dr. Drew's Life Changers, a make-over show that helped ordinary people who are dealing with conflicts in their lives. He has been regularly featured on networks and shows including CNN, NBC Nightly News, Extra, Good Day LA, KTLA, Univision and various others. Dr. Brian is also a recurring guest on The Doctors appearing as one of the show's go-to eye experts.Dr. Brian practices corneal disease treatment and refractive eye surgery (vision correction) and is the director and founder of the Boxer Wachler Vision Institute in Beverly Hills, California. At the age of 31, Boxer Wachler became one of the youngest directors of any medical division in UCLA's history. Some of his patients include Olympic Gold Medalist Steven Holcomb, TV talk show host Dr. Phil, actress Lucy Liu, former Los Angeles Laker Derek Fisher, Los Angeles Clipper Jamal Crawford, singer Seal, St. Louis Cardinals baseball player Tommy Pham and professional boxer Shane Mosley among thousands of others.Dr. Brian has developed and pioneered several life changing treatments to improve and stabilize vision including Holcomb C3-R®, the first United States cornea collagen crosslinking to stabilize Keratoconus, the use of Intacs® and Visian ICL(TM) for Keratoconus. Dr. Brian Boxer Wachler, MD was born November 2nd in Los Angeles, California. Though he grew up in the Los Angeles area, he attended medical school at Dartmouth and ophthalmology residency at Saint Louis University. Dr. Brian received his undergraduate degree from UCLA and later became the Director of the UCLA Laser Refractive Center at the Jules Stein Eye Institute for many years. He is currently on staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.Dr. Brian has been honored with the Achievement Award, Senior Achievement Award, and Secretariat Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology as well as being voted into Best Doctors in America. In 2012, he was one of a few selected physicians honored with the prestigious Compassion Doctor Award based on patient reviews. Boxer Wachler was honored by the United States military for his immense and invaluable contributions to the United States of America, Department of Defense, and United States Army as a recognized leader, researcher, and innovator. In 2010 Dr. Brian was awarded the Jules Stein Living Tribute Award. He was recognized along with his patient, Olympic Gold Medalist Steven Holcomb for increasing awareness in 2010 for modern Keratoconus treatments that restore patients' vision and save them from the invasive and painful corneal transplants.The oldest of three siblings, Dr. Brian has two younger brothers. His parents owned a hair salon in Santa Monica, California and his father continues to work as a hairstylist and still cuts his hair. Dr. Brian and his wife Selina met at a summer camp back in college where they were both counselors. They have been married for 24 years and have twin daughters, Jordanna and Micaela. In his spare time, Dr. Brian is an avid rower and has competed all over the world. During college, he received a Rotary Foundation scholarship, was a national champion rower for Edinburgh University in Scotland and was selected to represent Scotland in an international competition.
