Brent Thurston made his Western Hockey League debut with the Victoria (British Columbia) Cougars in the 1988-89 season, as a 17 year old rookie. He played center as well as the left wing position and was with the Cougars for about a season and a half. Then, was traded to the Spokane (Washington) Chiefs for Milan Dragicevic, midway into the 1989-90 season.His third season, as a 19 year old, was a "banner" year for Thurston, as he was the Chief's seventh leading scorer with 32 goals, 31 assists for a total of 63 points. In addition, he helped the Chiefs win the 1991 Memorial Cup, which is Canadian Major-Junior Hockey's top prize and was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the seventh round, 139th overall.The next season as an "overager" (20 year old), he returned "home", back where he got his start, with the Victoria Cougars.Thurston enjoyed a brief professional career, first with the Johnstown Chiefs, of the East Coast Hockey League and spent time with the Vancouver Voodoo and the Anaheim Bullfrogs of the Roller Hockey International League.
