Born in Birmingham, UK to Irish parents, and grew up in Dublin. He emigrated to Boston, where he has been a renowned multiple-award-winning stage actor for more than 20 years. His many credits include director Michael Morris' American debut, The Weir, at Gloucester Stage. He was the Resident Irish Actor at the celebrated Sugan Theatre Company for years and also worked with Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, New Rep, and The Revels (in which he has appeared with Angélica Aragón and Steven Barkhimer). In Los Angeles he was nominated for an Ovation Award for the role of Father Behan in the world premiere of The Belle of Belfast, a role he recently reprised in New York at the Irish Rep. His screen debut was in Black Mass (2015) as IRA leader Joe Cahill opposite Johnny Depp.
