Singer and actress Bernadene Hayes was known in her hometown Chicago as the "Queen of Radio" before moving to Hollywood where she appeared in many films, frequently opposite Gene Kelly and Clark Gable in several movies. Her first major role was in Sweetheart of the Navy (1937).
