He was a saxophonist in the orchestras of "Bull Moose" Jackson, Tadd Dameron, Lionel Hampton, Johnny Hodges, Earl Bostic, Dizzy Gillespie and Art Blakey,then formed his own quartet in 1959, then formed a jazztet with Art Farmer. He has made many recordings.
