Originally from South Florida, model turned actor Bashir Gavriel knew early on what he wanted to do with his life. But instead of following the yellow brick road straight out of college, he decided to take the road less traveled. Understanding the hardships and financial instability of the entertainment industry, Bashir put moving to Los Angeles on hold to go to nursing school. Four years later, as a cardio/thoracic Registered Nurse, Bashir moved to Hollywood. Within a year and half, he secured commercial, theatrical, managerial, and voiceover representation. He obtained his SAG eligibility after impressing Bill Condon with his musical ability (Bashir plays both the piano and guitar). Condon featured him as the band leader in a scene with Jennifer Hudson in the Academy Award-winning movie Dreamgirls.Since his arrival in Los Angeles, he has done several commercials. His first film, "Chiseled," (a slasher film) was featured in the famed horror magazine Fangoria. An alum of Second City, Bashir had the opportunity to stretch his improve chops in a sketch/comedy Pilot with Jada Pinkett Smith. Most recently, Bashir spent a month shooting a pilot in Fiji with Meshach Taylor ("Designing Women," "Dave's World"). His ability to secure this role, got him a featured article in Backstage West. Bashir can also be seen in a spoof of the MACintosh commercials originally done for the San Diego MAC convention. It is currently being shown on youtube.com and various other video sites. As a result of his medical background, Bashir has provided medical supervision for several major television shows and films including: Studio 60, Heartland, Invasion and 3lbs with Oscar winning director Davis Guggenheim. In this capacity, he also got the chance to work with one of his idols, Eddie Murphy, in his newest feature Starship Dave. Show less «
