Balsar Garzón Real was born in Jaén in 1955. His first destination as a judge was in Valverde del Camino, in the province of Huelva at the age of 26. Subsequently he became a magistrate of the Central Court of instruction of the room 5 of the National Court, a position he would occupy from 1988 to 2012. At that time, except for a one-year hiatus, he was in charge of cases such as crimes of great relevance in Spain like crimes against humanity, drug trafficking, political corruption, and terrorism of ETA, as well as that of the State, known as "dirty war." In 1990 he monopolized all media attention with Operation Nécora. He managed to take the heads of the clans of Galician drug trafficking such as Laureano Oubiña to court.
