Amin El Gamal was born during an earthquake in Palo Alto, California. His parents are both Egyptian immigrants - his mother came to the United States with her family at 13 to escape political persecution and his father immigrated to study electrical engineering at Stanford University. When El Gamal was three, he got his first taste of the stage playing an angry barber in a preschool production. He attended Palo Alto High School, and then graduated with a bachelor's degree in Drama and English from Stanford University before progressing to the USC School of Dramatic Arts, which he left with a masters in 2011.Shortly thereafter, El Gamal landed memorable guest roles on The Newsroom (2012) and Shameless (2011). His theatre work includes productions and workshops at South Coast Repertory, the NY Public Theater, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, the Pasadena Playhouse, the Playwrights Foundation, A Noise Within, Musical Theatre West, and the LA Phil.In the next year, El Gamal will play a major character on Fox's highly anticipated Prison Break: Sequel (2017), appear opposite Alfred Molina in the film Message from the King (2016), perform a pivotal role on the third season of The Librarians (2014) and round out the ensemble in the critically acclaimed indie Namour (2016).
