Amanda Hancox was born in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, the baby of three children. She has two brothers, Richard and Michael. In 1959 the family moved to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada where her father held the position of editor of the Guardian Newspaper. As early as she can remember she had a dream of becoming a ballerina. After excelling at ballet lessons in Charlottetown she won a scholarship to the prestigious Tring Park private school in England, which she attended from 1966 until 1972. She was in the original cast of the still running musical production of "Anne of Green Gables" which opened in 1964 in Charlottetown. In 1972 she was selected to be a dancer with Le Feux Follets and also was cast as Josie Pye in Anne of Green Gables. She later played the deaf character Belinda in "Johnny Belinda" on stage as well as in the CBC TV production with Don McManus and Scot Denton.Along with numerous commercials she has appeared in movies and television in Canada and the US. She has had a successful stage career in Canada and when she hung up her dancing shoes "to let someone else have a turn", she continued to use her talent to teach others. She is active in theater in Toronto, encouraging youth to develop their talent.She has been married to actor Scot Denton (The Gate) since February 1974.
