Australian born actor and singer Alexander Makauskas grew up in the Gold Coast hinterland of Queensland. It wasn't long till his parents, Glenn and Cherie Makauskas noticed he was destined to be an actor, "jumping in and out of different characters and putting on plays in the family living room was a daily occurrence" for the then 5 year old Alex. However, growing up in the country also meant he was just as useful with a hammer, rake or on the back of a horse. His families involvement in the world of Equestrian spans across many generations. His father and grandfather are prominent figures in the horse racing industry, while his younger sister Shannan Makauskas is a professional dressage rider and assistant editor for "The Horse Magazine". Alex himself rode horses for over 15 years, competing professionally in almost every discipline and earning a place on the Qld YR State Team as well as wining Sate and National titles.Despite being a successful rider his passion for acting remained strong. He soon earned a place at "The Australian Film and Television Academy" run by John Orcsik and multiple Logie and Golden Logie award winner, Paula Duncan. He studied there for three years. During this time he was also picked up by a local talent agent. He soon landed work as a "school boy" on an episode of the American TV Series Flipper where he got to work amongst stars like Jessica Alba and experience life on set for the first time. He enjoyed the experience so much that at 11 years old he told his parents he wanted to pursue a career in acting. Soon, he and his family were traveling back-and-forth from their home on the Gold Coast to Brisbane and Sydney so Alex could audition for acting roles on a regular basis. Critically acclaimed director Nicole McCuaig soon noticed Alex's talent and offered him the younger role of "Nick" in the award winning film "Nick - a teen romance" (Brisbane International Film Festival). At the age of 12 it was his first taste of acting in a film as well as his first taste of smoking a cigarette - one of the roles more controversial character traits.Since his early introduction into the industry he has received acting and dialect coaching from long time mentor and fellow actor/coach Peter Kent, who has worked with Hollywood heavyweights like Nicholas Cage, Gerard Butler, Rose Burn, Katie Holmes and Guy Pearce. As well as studying with Warner Bros Studio based coach and casting director Tom McSweeney. Alex has landed numerous roles in television shows, commercials, theatre and film such as Sea Patrol (Television Series), H20 Just Add Water (Television Series), King of Clubs (Television Series), AQ TVC's and most recently the lead role of Mark Brownan in the feature film, Then There's Life (Post-Production). A true to life, gritty drama of friends, love, lost dreams and the harsh realities of life. He has also recently been snapped up by recording group, "Dala Diamond" and will be performing on tour as the groups male lead singer in 2011, whilst doing press for the film. With such a diverse and gifted talent and his best work and career defining roles yet to come, the future looks very bright for this impressive young actor. Show less «
