Adam John Leiphart was born in Port Washington, Wisconsin to parents Christine Freeman and Scott Leiphart. He had a rural upbringing in Fredonia, Wisconsin along with his two younger brothers, Jacob and Joseph, and his younger sister, Miccah. After high school, Adam began traveling to Chicago where he studied at the Second City Theatre. In 2005 he moved to New York City after being accepted into Circle in the Square Theatre School's professional conservatory. There, he was classically trained as an actor, and his final year concluded with a performance of Anton Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard" at Circle in the Square's Broadway theatre.
