Following in the footsteps of 2009's The Founding of a Republic and 2011's The Founding of a Party comes the all-star Chinese historical drama The Founding of an Army, produced to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army. Hong Kong director Andrew Lau (Infernal Affairs) takes the reins for this massive cinematic undertaking set in 1927 during the breakout of the Chinese Civil War between the Communists and the Nationalists. The film follows the strategic and organizational efforts of Zhou Enlai, Mao Zedong and other key figures leading up to war, and depicts important military engagements, including the Nanchang Uprising and the Sanheba Battle in Guangdong, in impressively extensive and explosive war action scenes.
