Kris Fowles goes to the Springwood Diner to meet with her boyfriend, Dean Russell, who falls asleep at the table and meets a man covered in burn scars, wearing a red and green sweater, a fedora and a clawed glove on his hand. Death stalks the dreams of several young adults to claim its revenge on the killing of Freddy Kruger. Chased and chastised by this finger-bladed demon, it is the awakening of old memories and the denials of a past of retribution that spurns this hellish vision of a dreamlike state and turns death into a nightmare reality.

Rolling Stone
It's the Bay touch you feel in the way actors register as body count, characters go undeveloped, and sensation trumps feeling. A nightmare, indeed.

Georgia Straight
This Elm Street reeks of a rushed cash-grab, as even the most reliable of clichéd shocks fail to register on the fright-o-meter.

TheHorrorShow
So generic, so lazy, and so forgettable they may as well have "we're not even trying" plastered across the bottom of the screen.

7M Pictures
I still like the characters from the first film, and these kids were cardboard shadows of them.
January 18, 2014
Globe and Mail
The result of the new Nightmare is, at best, a kind of stand-off between predictability and competent execution.
April 30, 2010
Lyles' Movie Files
The real nightmare is the tragic lack of creativity in this new look of one of the genre's greatest characters.

Time Out
This is the worst yet from Michael Bay's horror production company Platinum Dunes, which also brought you rubbish re-makes of Halloween and Friday the 13th.

Time Out
Jackie Earle Haley's Krueger is a blast, but the child-molester twist is more depressingly clinical than dream-logic harrowing.
May 05, 2010
Big Hollywood
This flimsy remake is a nightmare and unworthy of your time.
December 25, 2012
Cinemaphile.org
It replaces the fascinating context of Freddie Krueger's existence with a seemingly endless exercise in violence and unrelenting pain.
