Mary is a human on The Axiom. Initially, she is just like the other humans on the ship: disconnected from the world around them, absorbed in technology, and totally complacent with the dull routine of the ship. After her meeting with WALL-E, who shuts off her telescreen, she gains a deeper awareness of and amazement about the world around her. She then meets John, who shares a similar awakening after meeting WALL-E, and the two begin to interact on a seemingly regular basis, and become friends.
