Lt HANNA from the LAPD Robbery Homicide is what one would term in police parlance, a good operator. Before coming to LA he made a name for himself in Chicago by taking down major criminals there.HANNA and his team come across a slick armed robber in the way of Neil McCAULEY in LA. He leads a crew of hardened men who are regimented in the way they rob whilst armed.HANNA is informally impressed by the way the crew operate the more he gets to know them ( although he only suspects they are committing the crimes they do ).HANNA is in his 3rd marriage. All including the latest have and will succumbe to his obsession with his job. At a quick glance at his resume he is also an ex marine.HANNA soon realises through a gig/informant McCAULEY and his crew are robbing a large bank in midtown LA. A serious gunfight ensues. HANNA now identifies McCAULEY of course. McCAULEY loses some men in the fight but makes good his escape. HANNA is on his heels but is interrupted by a domestic situation involving his step daughter. His wife Justine gives him leave to try and catch McCAULEY before he leaves LA with assistance of a underworld operator named Nate.HANNA kills McCAULEY due to McCAULEY's decision to kill the aforementioned informant in an airport hotel before his plane leaves.HANNA knows the reason for the delay and thus they brother-handshake as McCAULEY dies.
