Dr. Cornelia Wilbur, a.k.a. Con or Connie, was the pyschologist who diagnosed Shirley Ardell Mason, a.k.a. Sybil, with Multiple Personality Disorder circa 1957. At that time, Multiple Personality Disorder was not officially regarded as a viable psychiatric evaluation, so Connie was mocked. She was also treated with prejudice for being one of few women in her field.Dr. Wilbur made a case study of Sybil, and, as a result, Multiple Personality Disorder eventually became accepted as a viable psychiatric evaluation.Dr. Wilbur died in 1992. Shirley Mason died a recluse in 1998; her belongings were auctioned off after her death, and, as a result, it was discovered that Shirley Mason was the woman the rest of the world knew as Sybil.
