A 1987 graduate of the University of Miami's physical therapy school, Vermillion served five seasons with his alma mater as a physical therapist form 1987-91. He spent four years prior as a student athletic trainer for the Hurricanes. Vermillion joined the Panthers in 2002 following one season as the director of rehabilitation for the Washington Redskins. Prior to joining Washington, Vermillion worked with the Miami Dolphins for nine seasons, four as the head athletic trainer under legendary coach Don Shula and five as the director of rehabilitation and associate athletic trainer. Ryan Vermillion is in his 17th season as head athletic trainer for the Carolina Panthers in 2018. He has nearly three decades of experience in the NFL. Vermillion is responsible for the coordination of all aspects of health care for the team. He manages the athletic training room, including all full-time athletic trainers and season-long certified intern athletic trainers. He and his staff are experienced in risk management and injury prevention, pathology of injuries and illnesses, conditioning and rehabilitation; and the nutritional aspects of injuries and illnesses. In 2003, Vermillion along with Mark Shermansky and Reggie Scott were honored as the NFL Athletic Training Staff of the Year.
