Born in Mexico City, Raul Arevalo moved to Chicago at age 10. He studied menswear design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City graduating in 1995 after winning the Chairman's Award for "Best Menswear Collection."Recruited by Abercrombie and Fitch, Arevalo started his career in Technical Design. He went on to transform the fit and construction of men's, women's, and children's apparel for Target, Nordstrom, American Eagle, Aeropostale, Steve and Barry's, Converse and most recently, Club Monaco as Director of Technical Design. He also worked closely with celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker on the development of her fashion line, and Venus Williams on the design and production of her on-court tennis dresses (as seen in the Venus & Serena Documentary) for a span of 5 years.Arevalo, with Brad Schmidt, established CADET in Brooklyn in 2011. CADET offers full collections of menswear and womenswear inspired by the post-war military academy era. The brand aims for clean lines, high quality, and a crisp and precise aesthetic. The result is clothing that honors classic silhouettes but also improves upon them with the use of innovative fabrications and techniques. In 2015, Arevalo and Schmidt were named Design Entrepreneur NYC winners as well as U.S. nominees for the International Woolmark Prize.With CADET, he has done design, technical consulting and production for Kenneth Cole, Nautica, and most recently, Quiksilver. Additionally, he has created red carpet and tour outfits for singer Miguel. Arevalo is a master tailor and is able to transform not only individual garments, but an entire company's position in the market by perfecting fit across all apparel categories.
