An amateur actor and astute observer of culture and personal nuance, Grossman leapt at the chance to perform a small role in this movie that unobtrusively went on to win recognition and awards in film festivals.Maurice Grossman is best known for his work as a potter. The founder of the University of Arizona's ceramics program in 1955, Grossman started out as a painter, studying watercolor and commercial art at Detroit's Wayne State University in the 1940s.Due to a wide range of travel experiences, dating back to his time in the Navy, in Japan on a Fullbright Scholarship, as well as personal and professional travels since, ceramic traditions from around the world turn up in Grossman's art. He's traveled widely, to India, Mexico, Greece and Bali, and used art to bridge the difference between cultures. He became a Buddhist during his time in Japan, and his work often have had spiritual dimension since.He has been twice married, both times to other artists, and had 3 children (2 surviving).
