Maria Jadwiga Kwaskiewska was born on August 15, 1913 in Lodz, Poland. Kwasniewska won the bronze medal in the women's javelin throw at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany. Maria went on to finish sixth in the women's javelin throw and seventh in the women's shot put at the 1946 European Championships. Moreover, Kwasniewska was active in the ant-Nazi underground during World War II; she helped Jewish and Polish homeless and starving people. Maria died at age 94 on October 17, 2007 in Warsaw, Mazowieckie, Poland. Show less «
