Jasmine was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where she spent her childhood filling up notebooks with sketches of women in dresses. As a little girl, her mother made many of her favorite dresses on a black 1950s Singer sewing machine, taking her on trips to fabric stores where she was allowed to run her fingers through yards of fabric, eventually choosing one or two she liked that would be transformed into a new dress.Jasmine studied Fashion Design and Fine Art at the prestigious School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Upon graduating with her B.F.A. in Fashion Design from SAIC, the majority of her senior collection was sold. Jasmine acquired valuable industry experience while working under New York designers Anna Sui, Thakoon, Marchesa, Halston, and Tory Burch. Jasmine is also a graduate of Parsons The New School for Design, where she earned a degree in Fashion Business, Marketing, and Merchandising. Within a year of graduating from Parsons, her eponymous label was born.Jasmine Chong embraces quiet luxury, creating meticulously crafted womenswear pieces that marry the romance of rich detailing with the functionality of prêt-à-porter. At the heart of each garment is an unapologetic commitment to celebrating the female form, with silhouettes that are fluid and delicate, often cut on the bias. The designer weaves rich and personal stories through a canvas of color, silhouette, texture, and form, producing pieces that are sculptural, romantic, and meaningful. The label is for the woman who is soft, yet also strong. The collection launched in New York Fashion Week in February 2016 and has since been featured in Vogue, WWD, ELLE, Harper's Bazaar, and NY Mag. The label has been seen on red carpets and at premieres, including the Grammys, Tribeca Film Festival, and worn by Yuna, Christy Altomare, Emily Chang, Kristen Taekman, and Kelly Bensimon.Jasmine Chong is proud to be entirely designed and made in New York's Garment District.
