Champion high jumper Elfriede Kaun was born on October 5, 1914 in Buttel, Steinburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Elfriede was educated as a kindergarten nurse. Kaun won the bronze medal in the women's high jump in the 1936 Olympic games in Berlin, Germany. Moreover, Elfriede not only competed for the German sports club Kieler TV, but also was the German champion high jumper from 1935 to 1937 and a runner-up in the years 1934 and 1939. In addition, Kaun set a new indoor world record in the high jump in 1937. Elfriede went on to serve as a committee member of the Association of Former Athletes from 1977 to 1990.
